Scholarship
Program
The Land Conservancy's Scholarship Program awards two
Scholarships annually, the Russell W. Myers Scholarship
and the Rogers Family Scholarship, to encourage future
generations of conservationists, horticulturists, park
administrators and professionals in related environmental
fields.
The Russell W. Myers Scholarship Fund was established in
1983 to honor Mr. Myers, the founder of The Land
Conservancy of New Jersey. Mr. Myers was an outstanding leader in the
field of conservation who served as the first Director of
the Morris County Park Commission for more than a quarter
century. Mr. Myers’ dynamic leadership established the
Morris County Park System as the largest county park
system in the State of New Jersey and one of the finest in
the nation.
The Rogers Family Scholarship was established in 2005 by
Gray and Mollie Rogers, dedicated conservationists who
wanted to expand The Land Conservancy’s educational
support for outstanding environmentally-oriented
students. The Rogers’ developed a challenge to help raise
additional funds for the scholarships, agreeing to match
all gifts to the Russell W. Myers Scholarship with
equivalent contributions to the Rogers Family Scholarship
up to a total of $150,000. Thanks to the generosity and
foresight of the Rogers family, when their challenge is
fully realized, the grants given by The Land
Conservancy’s Scholarship program will have tripled.
The
Scholarship Program is administered by the Board of
Trustees of Morris Land Conservancy and is awarded
annually to deserving individuals who plan careers in
environmental science, natural resource management,
conservation, horticulture, park administration, or a
related field. An applicant must be a student in good
standing with at least 15 credits completed, have an
academic average equivalent to a 3.0 or higher, be a
resident of New Jersey and considering a career in New
Jersey that is consistent with the goals of the
Conservancy. Payment of the scholarship is made directly
to the institution that the successful candidate attends.
